Tigers Ride Complete-Game Shutout From Klimesh to Remain Unbeaten

More news about: Trinity (Texas)

Austin, Texas - Trinity senior Ben Klimesh pitched a five-hit shutout to lead the Tiger baseball team to a 1-0 win over Louisiana College at the Rudy's BBQ Tornado Classic on Saturday afternoon.

Trinity remained unbeaten at 4-0 to start the 2012 season, and Klimesh has pitched the Tigers to two wins in less than a week's time.

Klimesh struck out 13 batters for the second straight game, though this was a much more impressive performance by the right-hander.  Klimesh gave up no runs on just five hits, and walked just one batter, scoring his second straight complete-game win.  He sturck out at least one batter in every inning except the ninth.

The only run of the ball game came in the top of the fifth, when the Tigers manufactured a run with two outs.  Christian Muscarello and Nick Griffith both drew walks after the first two Trinity batters were retired, then Muscarello stole third.  That gave Dominick Robusto an easy opportunity for the go-ahead RBI, and the senior delivered a run-scoring single that turned out to be the game-winner.

Trinity had just six hits in the game, as Louisiana College had three players put forth solid pitching performances.

Kevin Clements had two hits in the game, while Kelly Woodruff and Kevin Francke both went 1-3 for the Tigers.  In addition to the game's only RBI, Robusto was also on base twice in the game, reaching on a hit-by-pitch in the first.

The Tigers face hosting Concordia (TX) University tonight at 7:00 p.m., finshing off their part in the weekend tournament.  Trinity returns home for a three-game series with Centenary College on Tuesday and Wednesday.
