San Antonio - Trinity's baseball team lost for the first time this season on Wednesday afternoon, falling in a 6-5 game against Division I Centenary College.

Trinity (7-1) took two out of three games in the mid-week series against the Gents, sweeping yesterday's doubleheader.

Today's game was a back-and-forth battle to the very end, but the Tigers came up short in the ninth inning.

Trinity took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, capitalizing on one of five Centenary errors in the game.  Centenary scored twice in the third and once in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead, before the Tigers cut it to a one-run game with another unearned run in the fourth.

In the bottom of the sixth, Trinity reclaimed the lead with two runs on a pair of hits, but Centenary promptly went back on top with a three-run seventh.  Ryan Gasporra hit his second two-run home run of the game to give the Gents the lead for good.

Trinity scored once in the eighth, but left four runners on in the final three innings, missing out on another dramatic victory in the series.

Michael Bentz gave up four runs on eight hits through six-plus innings of work, striking out four batters.  Matthew Tindall (0-1) was charged with the loss, allowing two runs on three hits.  Alex Herz closed out the final 2.2 innings, giving up no runs on just one hit, and striking out three batters in his season debut.

Kevin Clements led Trinity with three hits and a pair of RBI, while Pat Hirschberg was 2-5  with two runs and two RBI for the Tigers.

Nick Pappas was 1-2 with two runs, drawing three walks to reach base four times in five plate appearances.  Dominick Robusto was 2-4 with one RBI, and Jonathan Hall also scored a run in the loss.

Gasporra was 3-5 with four RBI and two runs scored, while Craig Littleman had two doubles among three hits for the Gents.  Peyton Stover earned the win for Centenary, allowing one unearned run in 2.2 innings of relief.

Trinity opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend, taking on Hendrix College in a two-game series.  The Tigers and Warriors will play at 1:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
