JACKSON, MS - The Mississippi College baseball team exploded for a season-high 16 runs in a Maloney Series victory over Millsaps on Tuesday night at Twenty Field.

In MC's third consecutive win, the Choctaws scored more runs than they had over the previous three-game series against Hardin-Simmons.

The Choctaws (5-6) jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the top of the fourth inning with two runs in the first and three runs in the second and fourth frames.  Senior Mike Kerdock and junior Brett Hightower each had two-run singles for MC early on.

The Majors (8-3) would not go down lightly, putting up seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth.  Ryan Zemke and Wes Perkins each had two-RBI doubles to highlight the inning.

After a scoreless fifth for MC, Millsaps took their first lead of the night, 9-8, in the fifth on a two-run single by Stephen Gates.  Gates joined four other Majors with two hits.

Neither team could score in the sixth or seventh innings, but junior Spencer Brusnon put MC ahead for good in the eighth with an opposite field, two-run home run.  Overall, the Choctaws scored seven runs on six hits to put the game away.

Senior Jeremy Simmons capped off the frame with a two-run double that scored senior J'Marcus Brooks and junior Josh Perez.  Simmons paced the MC offense with two hits and three RBI.

Senior Chad Wooten singled home a run in the ninth for some insurance.  The Majors would plate another run in the ninth, but senior Scott Trousdale closed the door with two strikeouts and a fly-out.

Every hitter in the MC lineup had a hit on the night with six batters tallying two.  The 6-7-8-9 hitters went a combined 8-19 with eight runs scored and four RBI.

Junior Matt Frye started the game for MC, allowing just one hit, but walking three over 3.0 innings.  Trousdale (1-0) finished the game, pitching 4.1 innings and striking out five.

For Millsaps, Will Elmore took the loss, allowing seven earned runs and six hits over 1.2 innings pitched.

The Choctaws will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Sul Ross State in Alpine, TX for a three-game series.  The two teams will play a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, followed by a single game at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
