Rams Hold Keene State to Four Hits in Home Opening Win

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team picked up their third win of the season with a 7-2 victory in the home opener against Keene State (0-1) today in the St. Joseph's Tournament held in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams improved to 3-4 overall with the win, after finishing 2-4 on their Spring trip to Florida last week.

Keene State pushed across a run in the top of the fourth. Junior Greg Bates (Salem, N.H.) reached on an error, moved to third on Burgio's hit-and-run single, and scored on a double play.

In the fifth, Farmingdale State jumped ahead 2-1 on a 2 RBI single to left field by freshman shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), scoring senior third baseman Ryan McAllister (Miller Place, N.Y.) from third and junior outfielder David Zilnicki (Riverhead, N.Y.) from first.

The Rams scored five runs over the next three innings on eight hits, holding the Owls to just two hits over the final four innings.

Alvino finished 1-for-5 with one run scored and three RBI's. Zilnicki, junior outfielder Terrence Bohonan (Patchogue, N.Y.), freshman first baseman Ryan Levine (West Babylon, N.Y.) and senior catcher Frank Scarlato (Holbrook, N.Y.) all had two hits.

Junior pitcher Anthony Eilers (Bay Shore, N.Y.) pitched seven innings for the win, striking out 10 while allowing just two hits and walking one.

The Rams will now face Western New England on Saturday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m.
