YAPHANK, N.Y. - After taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning, the Oswego State baseball team (0-1) later gave up a bottom of the tenth-inning run to Mount St. Mary (1-1) for a 3-2 loss at Baseball Heaven.

David Mazzullo (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) opened the second inning with a lead-off double. After a single by Alex Jurczynski (Jr. Schenectedy, N.Y.), Mazzullo scored as Mount St. Mary turned a double play for a 1-0 Laker lead.

In the top of the fifth, Tyler Baker (So., Hannibal, N.Y.) singled and stole second base before later scoring on a bases-loaded walk by Ed Charles (Jr., Auburn, N.Y.) with one out. However, the rally would not earn another Laker run.

Mount St. Mary got one run back in the bottom of the seventh thanks to four hits and an error. It then tied the game in the bottom of the ninth following a walk and a one-out single.

Charles was hit by a pitch to start the top of the 10th inning, but the Lakers could not advance him beyond second base.

However, an error to open the bottom of the 10th inning allowed Mount St. Mary to score the game-winning run on a one-out single.

Brady Farkas (Sr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) took the loss after pitching the final two and two-thirds innings and allowing one earned run. Jon Stevens (Jr., Chittenago, N.Y.) allowed just two hits in six and two-thirds before leaving the game.

Alex Jurczynski (Jr., Schenectady, N.Y.) and Scott Buniak (So., Clifton Park, N.Y.) each finished with two hits to lead the Laker offense.

Oswego State faces SUNY Old Westbury in a doubleheader on Saturday.
