MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The third-ranked Captains (10-2) scored two runs in the top of the ninth and one in the tenth to escape with a 4-3 extra-inning victory today, dropping Catholic University in ten innings. Catholic falls to 6-3 overall as CNU snaps the Cardinals four-game winning streak with clutch hitting late in the game.

Junior reliever Ryan Fleischmann picked up the win after closing out the game with two innings of scoreless relief. He struck out four and allowed just two hits. Sophomore starter Jacob Vaughan threw 5 2/3 innings effectively, giving up five hits and two walks while striking out three and allowing just two earned runs.

CNU trailed 3-1 heading into the ninth inning when the Captains stormed back with a pair to tie the game. The Captains took the momentum into the tenth inning when, with the bases loaded, Billy Steel picked up a walk to score the eventual game-winning RBI. Steel finished 1-5 on the day with two RBI.

Catholic loaded the bases in the bottom of the 10th, but Fleischmann escaped without allowing a run to earn the win.

Seniors Ben Lenda and Steven Keener picked up three hits each and Lenda added an RBI. The Captains bullpen was strong again, seeing 4.1 innings of work, striking out six and giving up just one run. Junior Richard Lindsay went 1.1 innings with one K and Matt Verdillo followed it up with one inning and one K also.
