(WINTER HAVEN, Fla.) - The 13th-ranked Thomas More College baseball team belted out 15 hits in an 8-3 win over the University of Mount Union today (Tuesday, March 6, 2012) on the second day of the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational at the Chain of Lakes Complex in Winter Haven, Florida.

With the win, the Saints improve to 1-1 on the season.  With the loss, the Purple Raiders fall to 3-2 on the season.

The Saints scored two runs in the third, three in the fourth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh, while Mount Union only plated three runs in the fourth.

Senior Aaron Carmack (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) earned the win on the mound as he pitched six innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits.  Freshman Ethan Fleming (Heath, Ohio/Heath) pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning and junior David Etscheid (Union, Ky./Ryle) pitched the eighth and ninth innings and struck out the side in both innings.

The Saints were led at the plate by junior shortstop David Kennett (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City), who was three-for-four with two runs scored, sophomore second baseman Jason Handley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills), who was three-for-five with a double and two runs scored and sophomore outfielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), who was three-for-five with a double and a triple.  Freshman outfielder Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-four, sophomore designated hitter Ryan Darner (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic) was two-for-four with three runs scored and senior first baseman Andrew Thole (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was one-for-four with a double and two runs batted-in.

The Saints return to action tomorrow when they play Mount Aloysius at 11 a.m. on field two at the Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale, Florida.
