Rams Drop Non-Conference Game Against Southern Maine

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team fell, 8-4, in a non-conference game against Southern Maine this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams dropped to an even 5-5, while the Huskies improved to 2-1 on the season.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, freshman third baseman Matthew Zsevc (Westbury, N.Y.) reached base on an error and eventually scored the tying run on a triple to center by junior left fielder David Zilnicki (Riverhead, N.Y.). Freshman second baseman Thomas Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) put the Rams ahead 2-1 with an RBI single to right. The Rams added a third run as Rydzewski scored on a Southern Maine fielding error.

The Huskies responded with a five runs on three hits in the seventh inning to quickly regain the lead. 

Farmingdale State cut the deficit to 6-4 in the bottom half of the seventh on a Zilnicki fielder's choice RBI. The Huskies would tack on a run in each of the final two innings to cap off an 8-4 non-conference victory.

The Rams were led by Zilnicki who was 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Rydzewski batted 1-for-4 with a run scored and RBI, while Zsevc added one hit and scored a run.

Senior right fielder David Ricker (Winthrop, ME) had a game-high four hits, 3 RBI and scored one run for Southern Maine. Senior shortstop Anthony Pisani (Cheshire, Conn.) scored three runs and added one RBI for the Huskies.

Starting pitcher Ben Ives allowed one earned run over 6.1 innings and picked up the win for Southern Maine.

Rams junior starting pitcher Anthony Eilers (Bay Shore, N.Y.) recorded a no decision after allowing one earned run in five innings of work.

Farmingdale State next will host Southern Maine on Sunday, March 11th at noon.
