No. 23 Baseball sweeps three-game series against Sewanee with 14-6 victory

SEWANEE, Tenn.—The No. 23 Birmingham-Southern baseball team wrapped up the three-game conference sweep of Sewanee today with a 14-6 victory against the Tigers.

The Panthers now stand at 10-5 overall and 3-0 in the SCAC.

BSC opened the game with four runs in the first inning to set the tone, going up 16-0 before the Tigers finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, scoring all four of their runs at that time.

Senior Jon Walker led the Panthers with three of their 14 hits, going 3-of-3 at the plate. Sophomores Kevin Shelton and Austin Justice were also 2-of-2 with a home run each. Walker and Justice led with three RBI apiece.

The BSC pitching staff gave up eight hits. Senior Jesse Meier started and got the win to move to 2-1 on the season, giving up four hits with five strikeouts in five innings. Freshman left-hander Paul Caudill and junior right-hander Blake Yance threw the last two innings, with Caudill striking out one and Yance striking out two.

The Panthers stay on the road next weekend, traveling to face Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn., for a three-game series beginning Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
