Southern Maine - 7, Farmingdale State - 6

Farmingdale, N.Y. - A homerun, double and single in the eighth inning gave Southern Maine a 7-6 comeback victory over Farmingdale State today in a non-conference baseball game today in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams fell to 5-6 with the loss, while the Huskies improved to 3-1 overall with the win.

In the first, Southern Maine took a 1-0 lead on three hits and would add two more in the fifth as they held the Rams to just two hits over the first four innings. An error in centerfield would score two for Farmingdale in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

The Rams took their first lead of the game in the sixth, 4-3, scoring two runs on two hits and an error. Senior designated hitter Danny DeVito (Plainview, N.Y.) walked, while junior outfielder Terrence Bohonan (Patchogue, N.Y.) hit a pinch hit single, moving DeVito to third. Freshman shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored DeVito on a single through the right side. Bohonan would score on a fielder's choice throwing error as the Rams took the lead.

Both teams would score two in the seventh, trading leads again. With Farmingdale State leading 6-5 in the eighth, pinch hitter Chris Bernard (Scarborough, Me.) hit a homerun over the left field wall to tie the game at 6-6. Southern's next batter junior outfielder Tucker White (Deerfield, N.H.) doubled to left and two batters later a single to left field would score White for the eventual game-winning run.

Southern Maine sophomore pitcher Luke Hammond (Rangely, Me.) was the winning pitcher for the game, junior reliever Nick Douglass (Poland, Me.) was awarded the save.

The Rams will have a break until Friday, March 23rd when they host Yeshiva in a doubleheader at 10:00 a.m. to open their conference schedule.
