The Lakeland College baseball team remained undefeated on their young season, sweeping a doubleheader against the Cougars of the University of Minnesota-Morris.

The Muskies (4-0) put on another strong offensive performance to back its stellar pitching, winning game one, 11-4, before taking game two, 4-0.

Junior right-hander Andy Chitwood (Muscoda, Wis.) took the hill for game one, pitching five innings, allowing one run on four hits. He struck out eight against four walks. Chitwood had some troubles early, pitching out of a first and third situation in the first inning and later stranding the bases loaded in the third. He allowed a sac fly in the fourth, the first earned run he has allowed to the Cougars in three starts.

Sophomore Matt Weller (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) was the first man out of the bullpen today. He threw one inning, allowing three runs on two hits with one walk and one strikeout. Sophomore Ryan Boettcher (Bonduel, Wis.) would strikeout the side in the seventh inning, although he did walk two batters.

The offense provided plenty of support, scoring 11 runs on 16 hits, highlighted by a four run fifth inning. Boettcher led off the inning with a solo home run. After a walk by senior Mike Ruzek (Manitowoc, Wis.) and a Garrett Morris (Janesville, Wis.) single, sophomore Charlie Sparrow (Milwaukee, Wis.) delivered a two-out RBI single. He would later score on a Jess Nickel (Waupun, Wis.) RBI single as the Muskies scored eight runs in the final three innings to ice the game.

Sophomore right-hander Derek Loomans (Brandon, Wis.) took the ball in game two and dazzled in his season debut. Loomans tossed seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five and walking two. Loomans was a bit wild early, but settled in and faced 26 batters, five over the minimum.

The offense was off-balance early, but was to score runs in the third, fifth and the sixth. Boettcher and Sparrow stole the show again, getting things started in the third. Boettcher led off with a single and stole second, advancing to third on Sparrow's single to right. After a failed suicide squeeze, Sparrow stole third and scored on a Nate Soley (River Falls, Wis.) ground out. The single run was more than enough as Loomans allowed just one runner after the fourth inning.

Boettcher finished the day 5-for-8 with three runs scored and one RBI, while Sparrow went 4-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBI's.

The Muskies have totaled an impressive 48 hits and scored 33 runs in their four games. They also have yet to make an error in 2012.

Lakeland returns to the field tomorrow, as they Muskies face Knox College in a nine inning contest. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. EST on field three at the Player Development Complex.

Lakeland's junior varsity also plays tomorrow, as the Muskies face Gettysburg College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. EST on field five at the Player Development Complex.
