For the second time in a week, the Baruch baseball team has overcome a double-digit deficit to record a dramatic victory in Fort Myers, Florida.
On Saturday, the Bearcats trailed 12-0 to Muhlenberg, but rallied to win by the score of 14-13 in the greatest comeback in team history.
Earlier today, the Bearcats trailed 10-0 to Skidmore, but rallied back again to win by the score of 15-11 to finish their memorable trip in Florida with four wins in their last five games.
Skidmore began the morning contest by scoring five runs on five hits in the second inning. They added another run in the third and four more in the fourth inning to easily take control with the early score of 10-0.
However, the Bearcats never allowed the large deficit to get to them and slowly rallied one batter at a time beginning with three runs in the fifth inning.
Thommy DeJesus continued his solid rookie season by drawing a walk with the bases loaded for the first run to score John Yuksekol. Eric Ulino then hit into an RBI ground out to first base to score Thomas Daly.
With runners on second and third, Harold Fernandez walked to load the bases again. Joseph Morelli then walked to score Yancy Taveras to complete the three run inning to cut the deficit to 10-3.
The Bearcats tied the game in the sixth inning with seven runs on two hits, one error and five walks. Aldo Altamirano had the big hit with a triple to clear the bases to score three runs.
Skidmore added a run in their bottom half of the sixth inning to go ahead 11-10, but the Baruch bats stayed hot as they scored once in the seventh and two runs in each of the eighth and ninth innings to clinch the second largest comeback in team history.
The pitching staff from Skidmore struggled against the Baruch bats as they combined to allow 16 walks, while Jeffrey Mercedes earned the pitching win in impressive long relief (5.1 IP, O ER, 3 K) to help the Bearcats finish the trip on a positive note.
The Bearcats will return to action on Thursday, with a 3:30 pm single non-conference game at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey.
