No. 25 Bridgewater Defeats Baptist Bible

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - No. 25 Bridgewater College improved to 15-4 on the season with a 29-1 victory Wednesday afternoon over Baptist Bible College.

The Eagles put this one away early with five runs in the first and 11 more in the second.

Jonathan Mason drove home the game's first run and a bases-loaded triple by Jay Thompson gave the Eagles a 4-0 lead. Thompson scored on a sacrifice fly by Derrik Walling to make it 5-0.

The Eagles sent 16 hitters to the plate in the second inning and scored 11 runs on eight hits. Bryan Sanderson drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double and a bases-loaded double to the gap by Thompson drove home two more. Mason added a two-run double to drive home the final two runs of the inning as the Eagles took a 16-0 lead.

Baptist Bible scored its lone run in the top of the third. With two outs, Dan Reed singled and moved to third on a single by Jacob Claypoole. Reed scored on a single down the left-field line by Jon Canazone.

John Bayse picked up the win for the Eagles to improve to 3-0 on the season. Bayse allowed one run on six hits in five innings of work. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.

Christian Armstrong and MArk Smith combined for four perfect innings of relief work. Both pitched two innings and both struck out four batters.

Sixteen different players recorded hits for the Eagles. Sanderson was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, Mason finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Thompson was 2-for-3 with five runs batted in. Matt Lenox and Evan Smith were both 2-for-3 and both drove in a pair of runs.

The Eagles return to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Winchester to meet Shenandoah in a battle of Top 25 teams. The teams played earlier this season with the Eagles taking a 9-6 victory.
