New Paltz Baseball Suffers 12-9 Setback to Colby

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team (8-5) saw its five-game win streak snapped on Sunday afternoon, as Colby College (2-2) dealt the Hawks a 12-9 non-conference loss at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. Junior Matt Carr (Westbury, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) led the way offensively for New Paltz with a 3-for-4 performance at the dish.

In addition to his three hits, Carr drew a walk, notched an RBI and scored a run. Senior Jake Cameron (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) hit a three-run home run in the third, marking his third homer in two days, while senior Philip Parker (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Sophomore Anthony Repetto (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) rounded out the Hawk players with multiple hits, as he batted 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Freshman Roy Missall (Hemlock, N.Y./Honeoye Central) drew the start on the hill and lasted five innings, scattering seven hits and allowing four runs while striking out one. Senior Nick Monaco (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) pitched three innings in relief and yielded three runs—one of which was earned—off three hits and struck out one. Sophomore Mike Pastorino (Stormville, N.Y./John Jay) threw two-thirds of an inning in the ninth and was touched up for two runs off three hits and a walk before sophomore Chris Pyz (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) gave up a walk and a hit prior to recording the final out.

New Paltz looks to get back in the win column tomorrow, as it takes on Western Connecticut State University at 11 a.m. in a Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic doubleheader.
