Game 1 Box Score

FOREST GROVE – Despite not being known for their offensive firepower, Pacific pounded out 15 hits in the opener and 12 hits in a rain-halted second game as the Boxers took the first game of their three-game series with Lewis & Clark Saturday in Northwest Conference baseball action at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.

The 15 first-game hits backed up another brilliant pitching performance by Rob Dittrick (Jr., Mililani, Hawaii), who allowed one hits over seven innings to lead the Boxers to a 16-1 rout of the Pioneers in the opener.  Mike McGuire (Sr., Olympia, Wash.) followed that with six innings of four-hit baseball, which allowed Pacific to take a 6-0 lead in the second game.

The nightcap was halted after the end of the seventh inning due to rain.  The game will be continued on Sunday at noon, with the third game of the series beginning 30 minutes after.

Kevin Schwartz (Sr., Milwaukie, Ore.), Nick Tasaka (Jr., Hawaii Kai, Hawaii) and Chad Fahey (Sr., Keizer, Ore.) led the way for Pacific offensively with the three players pounding out five hits each.  Fahey finished the day with three runs batted in, while Schwartz and Tasaka each hit in two in the opener.

The win in the opener improved Pacific to 8-9 overall, 5-2 NWC, while Lewis & Clark dropped to 2-17 overall, 1-6 NWC.

GAME 1 – PACIFIC 16, LEWIS & CLARK 1
Dittrick was masterful once again to set up Pacific for the victory.  In seven innings, Dittrick allowed just one hit with seven strikeouts to improve to 4-1 on the season.  He faced just two batters above the minimum and at one point retired 12 straight batters.  Relievers Matt Delegato (Jr., Hillsboro, Ore.) and Brett Nakasone (Jr., Wahiawa, Hawaii) each allowed a hit in their innings of work to hold the Pioneers to a three-hitter.

Pacific bats did the rest, giving the pitching staff all they would need with a seven-run first inning.  After the first two Boxers' batters reached base, Fahey opened scoring with a single that scored Schwartz.  Nate Rasmussen (Sr., Sandy, Utah) followed two batters later with a two-run single.  Jordan Siu (Jr., Redmond, Wash.) made it 4-0 when he took a bases loaded walk to score Rasmussen.  Logan Moen (Jr., Brier, Wash.) scored on a fielder's choice and Schwartz knocked a two-run single on his second at-bat and the rout was on.

Schwartz and Michael Arakaki (Jr., Mililani, Hawaii) singled to leadoff the bottom of the third and both scored on a long double by Tasaka. Jared Van Hoon (Sr., Lake Oswego, Ore.) came up two batters later and launched a two-run triple and later scored on a ground out.

Fahey opened scoring in the Boxers' four-run fifth when he scored on a wild pitch.  Van Hoon scored when Moen reached by way of an error and Arakaki followed with a two-run double to score Siu and Moen.

The Pioneers' only run of the game was an unearned run in the eighth.  Mike Kinkenson singled to open the inning, advanced to second on a ground out and scored on the third Pacific error of the day.

Mike Hathaway took the loss on the mound for Lewis & Clark to drop to 1-5 on the season.  He allowed seven runs on four hits with six walks in two-thirds of an inning.  Alex Heimbrodt allowed nine runs, seven earned, on 11 hits with six strikeouts over the remaining 7.1 innings.  Schwartz and Fahey each had three hits to lead Pacific at the plate with Schwartz batting in two and Fahey scored three runs.

GAME 2 – PACIFIC 6, LEWIS & CLARK
McGuire made his first ever start for the Boxers in the second game and lined himself up for his first win of the season.  Going six innings, McGuire allowed just four hits with a walk and one strikeout before giving way to Tyler Kotchik (Fr., Beaverton, Ore.) in the seventh.

Pacific opened scoring with a three-run first inning.  Schwartz and Tasaka singled to leadoff the frame and Schwartz scored on a Fahey groundout.  Greg Tellez (Sr., White Salmon, Wash.) added two with his single that scored Tasaka and Rasmussen.

The Boxers added a pair in the sixth when Fahey singled to score Schwartz and Tasaka plated on Van Hoon ground out.  Pacific manufactured a run in the seventh when Tellez reached on an error by third baseman Nick Lavin and advanced to third.  He scored when Allan Cushing (Sr., Puyallup, Wash.) laid down a squeeze bunt.

Tasaka leads Pacific so far in game two with three hits.  Schwartz, Fahey and Mike Nagamine (Sr., Aiea, Hawaii) all had two hits.
