Decker wins 500th game

Winter Haven, Fla. - The Trinity College Bantam baseball team opened the day with their third straight shutout and closed it with a 15-5 exclamation point against the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Corsairs at Chain O'Lakes Park today to give them four wins in a row. The wins give Trinity Head Coach Bill Decker 500 wins as the Bantam Head Coach. He is currently 500-223 in his career at Trinity and 508-246 in his career overall. Trinity is now 5-3, while Mass.-Dartmouth drops to 3-3 on the season after opening their season with three straight wins.

Trinity senior tri-captain LHP James Ramsey (Belmont, Mass.), sophomore Patrick Carbone (North Wales, Pa.), and senior tri-captain RHP Angus Anderson (Middletown, R.I.) allowed four hits and struck out four to combine for a shutout in the opening game. Trinity sent eight batters to the plate in the first inning and mustered two runs, which was all the offense the Bantams would need to secure the victory.

The bats stayed on a roll in the second game, plating five first inning runs,and scoring in every inning but the seventh. Senior tri-captain 1B Kevin Mortimer (Spencer, Mass.) led the power surge with a double, a homerun, and three runs scored, while junior OF Michael Rueger (Teaneck, N.J.) went 4-for-4 with a double and three runs. Trinity led, 7-2, after two innings, and cruised the rest of the way.
