Thousand Oaks, Calif. (3/21/12) – Rookie reliever Dan Hansen tossed five and a third innings of shutout ball to earn his first collegiate win and as he helped the #3/4 Kean University baseball team edge California Lutheran University, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon.
Hansen (1-0) allowed just one hit and two walks with three strikeouts. With today's win, the Cougars improve to 12-4 this season.
Kean broke through with a single run in the top of the fourth as senior Eddie Jennings lined a two-out RBI single to drive in sophomore Shane Alvarez, who reached on a single of his own. The Kingsmen responded with three runs in the bottom of the same frame as they sent nine men to the plate with four singles and two hit batsmen to take a 3-1 lead.
The Cougars chipped away and added a single run in their half of the fifth as junior Nick Ramagli got aboard with a single. A wild pitch and a single from sophomore Nick Zucchero moved him to third before senior Vinny Galya drove him home with a sacrifice fly, pulling Kean within one.
Kean then took the lead for good with two in the sixth inning. Senior Steve Sanguiliano got things started with a one-out double and Jennings followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Sophomore Joe O'Connor worked a walk to load the bases. Senior Dylan Laguna then worked his own walk to bring in the tying run. With the bases still loaded, Ramagli was hit-by-a-pitch, bringing in Jennings for what would be the winning run.
Offensively Jennings was 3-for-3 with an RBI, run scored and walk while Zucchero was 3-for-4.
Kean closes out their California swing with a 1:30 p.m. (local time) matchup with La Verne University on Thursday at Azusa Pacific University.
