POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 23, 2012) -- With a walk-off single by freshman Kyle Casey in the 10th inning to propel the Vassar College baseball team to a 6-5 win in game two of the twinbill, the Brewers split games with St. Lawrence University on Friday at Prentiss Baseball Field.

The Brewers (2-6, 1-1) wrap up the series against the Saints (7-3, 1-1) with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 24, at 1:00 pm at Prentiss Baseball Field.

Junior Zander Mrlik (1-0) worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth and threw 2.2 scoreless innings to earn the win for Vassar. St. Lawrence won the first game 14-4 behind six innings from winning pitcher Jason Conde (2-1) and a combined nine runs of support in the fourth and fifth innings.

In the second game, St. Lawrence took a 4-3 lead with two runs in the top of the fifth but Vassar responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame to retake the lead, 5-4. For Vassar, Mike Perrone scored on a sacrifice fly by Dave Robbins and Jason Garfinkel drove in Brett Zaziski with a deep double over the centerfielder's head.

The Saints evened the score at 5-5 in the top of the eighth with a threatening rally sparked by a Brian McGoveny double. After a sacrifice bunt and a walk, Ethan Braddock tied the game with an RBI-single to left, chasing Vassar starter Scott Allen from the game after nine hits and five runs through 7.1 innings. In relief, Mrlik struck out the leadoff man Bryan Palermo and then walked Carter Franz to load the bases. Mrlik escaped the jam with a groundout  to first by Khifer O'Connor to keep the game tied 5-5.

With an unusual play in bottom of the tenth inning, Robbins reached second base on a pair of errors as the St. Lawrence third baseman botched a grounder which then deflected to the shortstop, who overthrew the first baseman. Garfinkel walked to put runners on first and second with one out and Casey singled with a well-hit ball to the gap to bring Robbins home for the 6-5 win. Robbins was 1-for-4 with three crucial RBIs.

In the first game, Paul Piatelli led the Saints offensive surge, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one triple, five RBIs and three runs. Franz was 5-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs. He reached base on all but one plate appearance today, going 2-for-3 with three walks and two runs in the second game. Zaziski delivered Vassar's highlight of game one with a two-run homerun to right center in the bottom of the third.

John MacGregor (0-1) earned the loss for Vassar in game one with nine runs (seven earned) on 11 hits. Kyle Donaldson was tabbed the loss for St. Lawrence in game two with one hit and one run in 1.1 innings.
