DOYLESTOWN (PA) – DeSales University racked up 27 hits, including nine for extra bases, as the Bulldogs registered a 26-7 victory over Delaware Valley College in the opening tilt of a three-game, Freedom Conference series.
The Bulldogs improved to 8-6 overall and 3-1 in the Freedom while the Aggies fell to 7-6 and 0-3. The series will shift to the DeSales campus for a doubleheader on Saturday (please note: with rain in the forecast, Saturday's games have been moved up from noon to 11:00 a.m.).
The Bulldogs scored five runs in both the third and fourth innings and never looked back. They added single tallies in the fifth and sixth stanzas before plating eight in the seventh and six more in the ninth. Six different players notched two or more hits with four players driving in four or more runs.
Ethan Moser led the way for DeSales as he went 4-for-6 with three doubles, three runs scored and six RBIs. He had two-run doubles in both the third and fourth innings to key those stanzas, and added another two-run two-bagger in the seventh. Jason Hadinger was 2-for-4 with a double and five RBIs while Nick Chiovitti was 4-for-6 with a double, five runs scored and five RBIs. Charles Dennis and Kenny Ridge were each 5-for-7 effort and combined to score six times while Mark Fuse came off the bench and smacked a grand slam home run in the ninth. Coly Pacillo went five innings and improved to 2-0 on the season.
Delaware Valley picked up five runs on three hits and one Bulldog error in the bottom of the fifth. Matt Bodine had the big blow with a two-run double while Pete O'Hara, Jake Barben and Mike Ferrier also drove in runs. The Aggies added a run on an error in the seventh and Dan Hrubos had a sacrifice fly to bring in a tally in the eighth.
Hrubos finished 4-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Bodine was 1-for-4 with the two RBIs. Cody Hudnall took the loss and fell to 2-1 on the year as he lasted just three-plus innings.
