The Emory University baseball team scored eight runs during the eighth and ninth innings against Huntingdon College on Saturday to claim a 10-4 win over the Hawks in Montgomery, Alabama.

The win was Emory's eighth in the last nine games, as the Eagles improved to 15-7 on the season.  Huntingdon dropped to 17-7.

Huntingdon took an early lead on Emory, scoring a run off starting pitcher Connor Dillman in the first inning on a hit batter, a walk, and a two-out RBI single from Jordan Freeman.

However, the Eagles responded with runs in each of the second and third innings, on sacrifice flies from junior Maxim Sankey and sophomore Jared Welch.

The score remained 2-1 until the bottom of the sixth, when Dillman allowed back-to-back one-out doubles to Freeman and Austin White, as Huntingdon tied the game up.

Dillman left the game after six innings with a no decision, allowing the two runs on just four hits and four walks, while striking out nine batters.

After a scoreless seventh for both squads, the Eagles broke through in the top of the eighth.  After a leadoff walk was issued to Welch, senior Jay Page reached on a single and advanced to second on a throwing error, moving Welch to third with nobody out.  Junior Daniel Iturrey followed by driving in the go-ahead run on a single through the left side of the infield, and a sacrifice fly from senior Kevin O'Connor in the next at bat extended Emory's lead to 4-2.

Bitanga, who entered the game for Dillman in the seventh, got into trouble in the eighth, loading the bases with one out.  However, he escaped without allowing a run in the frame, inducing a pop up to third base, and a ground ball back to him on the mound to end the inning.

Emory would seal the game in the top of the ninth inning.  After a single from junior Mark Lindemann started the Eagles' rally, freshman Brett Lake was hit by a pitch and sophomore Brandon Hannon was walked to load the bases.  Huntingdon's pitching then hit Welch and Page in back-to-back at bats to force in two runs.  After walks to pinch hitting freshman Stephen Sotiriou and O'Connor forced across two more runs, Toscano blew the game open with a two-run single, giving the Eagles a 10-2 lead over the Hawks.

Huntingdon scored two runs off Bitanga in the bottom of the ninth, but the junior was able to close out the contest, earning the win to improve to 3-0 on the season.  Will Davis took the loss for the Hawks, falling to 0-1 on the season.

Welch, O'Connor and Toscano each drove in two runs during the game for Emory, while Hannon added a three-for-four game at the plate with a stolen base.

The Eagles and the Hawks will face each other for the third and final time this season tomorrow, in Montgomery, Alabama at 2:00 PM ET.
