WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Benedictine University baseball team concluded its spring break trip to Florida at 4-5 after being swept by St. Olaf in a doubleheader on Saturday.
GAME ONE: ST. OLAF 3, BENU 0
Mike Irgang fired a gem, but St. Olaf used its only opening to take control. Nick Kulla connected on a one-out homer to right in the top of the second to put the Oles ahead 1-0.
Irgang settled in during his second start, retiring 14 in a row after the homer, which was the first hit of the game. Benedictine had plenty of chances to change the momentum, but left seven on base in the game including four in scoring position. The Eagles were 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position in the game.
Irgang worked into the seventh, stringing together the third consecutive quality start for the team by tossing 6.1 innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on just three hits to go with a pair of strikeouts. St. Olaf put the game away by using two insurance runs in the seventh inning of the getaway game for both schools. Four different individuals posted hits for Benedictine in the defeat.
GAME TWO: ST. OLAF 6, BENU 2

St. Olaf struck first with a pair of runs in the first inning. Dylan Porter led off the game with a single against starter Matt Vucovich. Following a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch, Jack Schechinger plated the first run with a single. With two outs, Nick Kulla, who homered in the first game, deposited a single into center to stretch the lead to 2-0.
Benedictine tied the game in the top of the fourth. Ryan Mullin led off the inning by being hit by a pitch. John Cervantes tucked a double just inside the right field line on a two strike delivery and Steve Cocat delivered with one out, a single to right to tie the game. The Eagles left a runner
The Oles netted two runs in the fifth to chase Vucovich from the game. Following a two-out walk, Dan Lee doubled to center to score a pair. Two more runs scored in the sixth to account for the final.
Benedictine (6-6) returns home tonight, and takes the field again on Wednesday against North Park, who is just outside the Top 25. The home opener will be on Sunday against Aurora with a doubleheader at 2:00 p.m.
