Auburndale, Fla. - The Trinity College Bantams swept Allegheny College, 5/14-3/6, in a RussMatt Central Florida Baseball Invitational this afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park. Trinity improves to 9-5, while Allegheny falls to 3-11.

Allegheny was first to strike in Game 1, when Kastelic and Pezzone each knocked in a run to put the Gators up 2-0. Trinity responded in the top of the fourth when junior Alex Almeida (Bridgeport, Conn.) walked then worked his way around the bases to cut to Gators lead to 2-1. In the fifth, Trinity added two more runs to take a 3-2 lead when junior Stephen Rogers (Watertown, Mass.) tripled in a run and senior tri-captain Kevin Mortimer (Spencer, Mass.) followed that with an RBI base hit. Trinity got some breathing space in the seventh, scoring a pair of unearned runs to go up 5-2.

Allegheny applied some pressure in their final at-bat, getting back-to-back one out hits from sophomore Kyle Davis (Solebury, Pa.) and senior Aaron Lynch (Concord, N.C.) before junior Mike Kastelic (Johnstown, Pa.) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 5-3. Trinity junior Ben Goldberg (Plainview, N.Y.) cut the rally short by inducing a game-ending flyout, earning the save in 1.2 innings of work. Davis led the Allegheny offense with two hits and two runs in the game, while senior David Cassanova (Bristol, Conn.) and Mortimer collected two hits apiece in the game for Trinity. Freshman Evan Abraham (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) earned the win in relief for the Bantams, pitching two shutout innings of one-hit baseball.

In Game 2, Trinity put up a five spot in the first inning, taking advantage of Gator miscues in the field, while piling on four hits and three walks. Trinity threatened to open things up some more in the opening frame, but Allegheny junior starter Frank Brank (Avenmore, Pa.) recovered with back-to-back strikeouts to leave the bases loaded. Allegheny cut the Trinity lead to 5-3 in the top of the third, highlighted by an RBI double by freshman Zach Gray (Pittsburgh, Pa.), but Trinity would get the runs right back in the bottom half of the inning to take a 7-3 lead. Allegheny recovered one of the runs to start the fourth.

Trinity loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth. A self-assisted double play by Lynch, playing first base for Allegheny, threatened to end Trinity's prime scoring opportunity in the inning. But with two outs, Trinity plated a run on a balk and Cassanova came up with his fourth hit of the day, a two-RBI double, giving Trinity a 10-4 lead. Freshman Bryan Wolfe (La Habro Heights, Calif.) followed up with a two-RBI double of his own, putting the Bantams up 12-4. The teams each scored twice over the next two frames to account for a 14-6 final score.
