GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kent Peterson and D.J. Phillips both had four hits in Guilford College's 14-10 baseball win over visiting Methodist University Wednesday. The slugfest featured a combined 37 hits between the two teams, including five home runs.

Peterson had run-scoring singles in the first, second and fifth innings for the Quakers (14-13). John Macon Smith continued his torrid hitting with three more hits and three runs batted in. NCAA Division III's home run leader (8), Smith has an 11-game hitting streak, during which time he's hitting .535 with two homers, seven doubles and 12 RBI. Guilford finished with 20 hits against eight different pitchers, but only four for extra bases. Senior Zack Montalbano extended his hitting streak to 12 with a solo homer in the seventh.

Trey Such and Matt Jack both homered twice for the Monarchs (15-15), but only Such's first-inning, two-run homer had runners on base. Dustin Brown led Methodist with four hits, including a double.

Freshman right-hander Justin Morrison picked up his team-leading fourth win of the season with 5.1 innings of work. Dylan Moore (1-1) took the loss after yielding three runs on four hits and a walk in Guilford's three-run second inning.

The Quakers return to Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Saturday (3/31) at Virginia Wesleyan College.
