DOVER, Del. - A seven-run fourth inning propelled the Wesley College baseball team to a 9-4 victory over Rowan University on Tuesday afternoon at Bob Reed Field. The Wolverines are now 19-9 on the season while the Profs fall to 15-6.
Bryan Reshetar collected three of Wesley's 11 base hits on the day and also scored twice while Rob Benedict scored twice, drove in two and stole a pair of bases.
Deadlocked at one, Wesley sent 12 batters to the plate in the fourth inning. Three-straight singles by Reshetar, Casey Rothwell and Matt Robles to start the frame loaded the bases for Benedict who ripped a two-run single up the middle. The four-consecutive base knocks forced a pitching change, but that did not stop the Wolverines.
Jon Carlson was the first to face Rowan reliever Matt Nelson and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Nelson's throw to third was wild which allowed both Robles and Benedict to score from second and first, respectively. Sam Farnell then drew a free pass and Geoff Kimmel reached on an error to load the bases for Morgan Rupp. Rupp then flied out to deep centerfield, scoring Carlson from third. A single by Steve Perone scored Farnell from second and another single by Reshetar, who started the inning, allowed Kimmel to cross the plate.
Jeff Cochran (2-2) received the win on the mound for Wesley by allowing just three earned runs on five hits in six innings of work. Andrew Cooper earned a three-inning save while allowing an unearned run on four hits.
The Wolverines are back in action on Friday, April 6, when they host Mary Washington in the opener of a three-game Capital Athletic Conference series at 3:30 pm. The same two teams will also meet on Saturday, April 7 in a 1 pm doubleheader.
