(LATROBE, Pa.) - The Thomas More College baseball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Saint Vincent College today (Thursday, April 5, 2012) at Bearcat Ballfield in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Saint Vincent won game one, 6-2, but the Saints won nightcap, 4-1.
With the split the Saints are now 15-8 overall and 7-5 and the Bearcats are 16-8 overall and 6-6 in the PAC.
In game one, Saint Vincent scored three runs in the second, one in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth, while hold Thomas More to two runs in the second for the 6-2 victory.
Four Saints had multiple hits in the game as junior shortstop David Kennett (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) was two-for-four with a run batted-in, freshman left fielder Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-four, sophomore third baseman Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) was two-for-four and junior center fielder Grant Lewis (Mason, Ohio/Mason) was two-for-three with a run scored.
On the mound, sophomore Andy Roenker (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross) suffered the loss as he pitched six innings giving up six runs (all earned) on nine hits and struck out two.
In game two, the Saints plated a run in the first and three in the third, while holding Saint Vincent to one run in the sixth for the 4-1 victory.
Junior pitcher David Etscheid (Union, Ky./Ryle) earned the win as he pitched seven innings and gave up one run (earned) on three hits and struck out six.
Kennett led the Saints at the plate as he was four-for-four with a triple, a double and two runs scored.
The Saints return to action next Tuesday (April 10) when they host Ohio Wesleyan University in a 4 p.m. non-conference game at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
