OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Oswego State baseball team (9-15, 2-5 SUNYAC) came up short in extra innings of a game one 3-2 loss followed by an 8-3 loss to Brockport (15-9, 4-4 SUNYAC) in a conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Laker Baseball Field.

In the first contest, Mike Stark (Jr., Rochester, N.Y.) led off the first inning with a single and later came around to score after a stolen base combined with a failed pick-off attempt to give the Lakers an early 1-0 lead.

Steve Roman (Sr., Middletown, N.Y.) extended the margin in the bottom of the second when his single through the left side drove in David Mazzullo (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.), who doubled two batters earlier. Oswego State was poised to have a big inning when it loaded the bases with one out, but the Lakers were unable to come up with the pivotal hit.

Brockport got the run back in the next at-bat after Corey Booth brought around Mike Weakley from second base to cut the deficit in half.

Pete Wilson evened the game at 2-2 for the Golden Eagles in the fifth when his sacrifice fly to center field plated Jeff Sergott, who started the frame with a double.

As the game went into extra innings, Oswego State had a golden opportunity after Scott Buniak (So., Clifton Park, N.Y.) hit a ball into left center that rolled to the fence, winding up at second to start the bottom of the eighth. However, the Lakers were unable to bring Buniak across home plate.

Brockport took advantage of the second chance by mounting a two-out rally in the top of the ninth with four straight hits to go ahead 5-2. Oswego State went down in order, as it suffered the loss.

Laker starting pitcher Dan Erne (Jr., Rochester, N.Y.) scattered eight hits and one earned run over seven innings to go along with five strikeouts and one walk. Brady Farkas (Sr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) picked up the loss with three earned runs on five hits in two innings.

Justin McCarthy earned the win after giving up just two hits over the final 4.1 innings. Mark Ciccotti gave up one earned run on five hits in 4.2 innings.

The Golden Eagles dealt the first blow in the second game of the twinbill in the second following a two-out, two-run single from Brendan Swayne. He tacked on a third run for Brockport with another RBI single in the fourth inning.

Oswego State answered in the next half-inning when a two-out double from Alex Jurczynski's (Jr., Schenectady, N.Y.) bat scored Buniak all the way from first base.

The Golden Eagles added a run in the sixth innings and two runs in the seventh and eighth innings to take an 8-1 lead.

The Lakers put together a two-out rally in the eighth, scoring two runs following a pair of Brockport errors to make the score 8-3, but that would be where the score ended up.

Buniak and Matt Miller (Jr., Montoursville, Pa.) each went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Mark Schaper (Sr., Warwick, N.Y.) earned the loss with a stat line of six earned runs on 13 hits in 6.2 innings with six strikeouts and two walks.

James Bardenett tallied the win after striking out seven and allowing one run on six hits. Pete Wilson led Brockport at the plate by going 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run followed by Swayne, who finished 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Oswego State plays a non-conference doubleheader at Cazenovia on Tuesday starting at 2 p.m.
