DOVER, Del. – Behind two very impressive pitching performances by high school teammates DJ Keckler and Jordan Lozzi (Fallston H.S.), the Wesley College baseball team completed a three-game sweep over Capital Athletic Conference rival Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon.  The Wolverines (22-9, 8-7 CAC) took the opener of the doubleheader, 5-0, before winning game two, 2-1.

In the opener, Keckler (5-3) threw a two-hit shutout and struck out three.  The shutout was the fifth of his career, tying Jake Schoelkoph (91-94) for the most in Wesley history.  In his three-plus seasons donning the Navy & White, Keckler has thrown 256.1 innings, just a third of an inning from tying Ryan Buckland (05-08) for the school-record.

A senior from Fallston, Md., Keckler had a no-hitter through 4.2 innings before allowing a double down the rightfield line. 

After stranding two runners on in both the first and second innings, Wesley scored runs in the third and fourth innings on RBI singles by Steve Perone and Jon Carlson, respectively.   Perone drove in another run in the fifth, as did Casey Rothwell, giving the Wolverines a 4-0 advantage. 

Geoff Kimmel's RBI groundout in the sixth gave the Wolverines an extra insurance run but Keckler did not need it as he retired the side in the seventh.

Perone had a perfect opening game as he went 3-3 with a run and two RBIs. 

The second game was a pitcher's duel as Lozzi (5-2) picked up his fifth win of the year by allowing an unearned run on six hits while striking out five.

Wesley scored its only two runs in the first inning.  Rob Benedict led off by reaching on a fielding error by the pitcher and he advanced to third on Carlson's single to right.  Carlson got to second on the play as the throw to third base was late.  Sam Farnell was then plunked to load the bases and Kimmel was credited with an RBI on a fielder's choice to second base.  With Carlson on third, Morgan Rupp brought him in with a groundout to second as well.

Mary Washington was able to finally get on the board in the third but Lozzi made quick work of the Eagles in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.  UMW threatened in the seventh getting two runners in scoring position with one out.  A perfectly-located pitch by Lozzi on a 2-1 count got Kevin Yarnell to popup to Greg McKee at second for the second out.  Lozzi then got Jeff Rezach to foul out down the third base line to complete the sweep.

The Wolverines are back in action on Tuesday, April 10, when they travel to Arcadia for a 4:00 pm non-conference game.
