McAllister's Solo Shot in Seventh Tops Oneonta

Oneonta, N.Y. - In the first game of today's baseball doubleheader, senior third baseman Ryan McAllister (Miller Place, N.Y.) led off the seventh inning with a homerun to left leading the Rams to a 5-4 non-conference victory in the first game against Oneonta State (8-7). The Rams fell in game two, 13-1, and now stand at 13-7 overall.

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the second, Oneonta cut the deficit to 3-2 on an RBI single by freshman rightfielder Matt Mastroianni (Somers, N.Y.) and a sac fly by senior catcher Eric Wells (Athens, Pa.).

In the third, Farmingdale State freshman shorstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) doubled down the left field line and later scored on a single to left field by senior catcher Frank Scarlato (Holbrook, N.Y.) to give the Rams a 4-2 cushion.

Sernior left fielder Cody Hitt (Boonville, N.Y.) led off the bottom of the third with a triple to left center and scored on senior second baseman Ivan Plata's (Schenectady, N.Y.) single to center. Junior third baseman Nate Jones (Apalachin, N.Y.) tied the game at 4-4 with a two out RBI single to centerfield.

The Rams were led by Scarlato, who was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI, while Alvino was 1-for-2 with two runs scored. McAllister was 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI, including his game-winning homerun. Freshman pitcher Connor Henson (Huntington, N.Y.) picked up the win after allowing three hits in three scoreless innings of relief. Freshman pitcher Michael Santagata (Brentwood, N.Y.) picked up his third save of the season after throwing a scoreless seventh inning.

Plata was 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and one RBI. Sophomore pitcher Mike McFerran (Albany, N.Y.) threw a complete game for the Red Dragons allowing three earned runs and striking out three.

Game Two

Oneonta's freshman pitcher Kyle Jordan (Levittown, N.Y.) shut down the Rams in game two, pitching a complete game allowing just four hits, striking out four and walking two.

Farmingdale State broke the shutout in the seventh inning on a single to right field by freshman shortstop Matthew Zsevc (Westbury, N.Y.), scoring freshman left fielder Mike Scarlato (Holbrook, N.Y.) from second.

The Rams will travel to face Stevens on Thursday, March 29 for a non-conference 9-inning game at 7:00 p.m.
