The Carthage College baseball team (9-11, 3-6 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) defeated non-conference opponent Concordia University (Wis., 8-11), 12-7, on Thursday, April 12 at the Carthage Baseball Field in Kenosha, Wis.

Carthage took a 3-0 lead in the second on a bases-loaded walk to Drew Bailey and a pair of RBI-grounders by Tyler Eickmeyer and Kyle Frye.  Then, just as quickly, the wheels came off in the top of the third.  Concordia's first eight batters reached base, as the Falcons racked up seven runs, capped by Adam Martz' three-run homer. 

Carthage got a run back in the bottom half of the third and two more in the fourth.  In the fifth, the Red Men loaded the bases, and Joey Aiello delivered a two-run single to put Carthage back on top, 8-7.  The Red Men scored three more in the sixth and one in the seventh to up their lead to 12-7.  Jon Kleinmeyer (Sr., Brookfield, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield, 1-1), in relief of Andy Pucher, was the winning pitcher.  Kleinmeyer worked the final seven innings and allowed just three runs on nine hits and no walks, while striking out five batters.  Michael Winter (0-1), the third-of-six Falcon hurlers, took the loss. 

Carthage's Joey Aiello (Sr., Libertyville, Ill.) went three-for-five with a double, two RBI and a stolen base.  Tyler Eickmeyer, Andrew Arenson and Drew Bailey each had two hits.  Carthage opens a three-game series with CCIW-opponent and No. 34 Illinois Wesleyan University (17-7, 6-3 CCIW) with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, April 14t.  The two teams conclude the series with a Noon single game on Sunday, April 15.
