NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College baseball team swept the Saints of Thomas More in a Presidents' Athletic Conference top seeded battle. The Titans won the first game 5-4 and the second game 6-1. Westminster improved to 19-8 on the season and to 10-1 in the PAC, while Thomas More fell to 17-10 overall and to 7-7 in conference play.

In game one, Westminster struck first as junior second baseman Kyle Allen (New Wilmington, PA / West Middlesex) singled in senior shortstop Steve Perrotta (New Castle, PA / New Castle) in the bottom of the first inning.

The Titans tacked on another run in the third inning as Allen singled in senior catcher David Schafer (Hermitage, PA / Hickory). Westminster added two runs in the fifth inning as senior first baseman Tim Wiand (Pottstown, PA / Owen J. Roberts) singled to score Perrotta. Junior Chris Ross (West Pittsburg, PA / New Castle) then grounded out to plate Allen.

Thomas more responded with a four-run sixth inning to tie the game. In the bottom half, the Titans scored the go-ahead run as junior outfielder Tyler Robinson (Creston, PA / Norwayne) came home after Schafer grounded into a double play.

Senior Patrick Mulligan (Brookfield, OH / Brookfield) started the game for Westminster. He pitched five and two thirds and had three strikeouts. Junior Nick Grow (North East, PA / North East) (1-1) earned the win as he pitched the final inning and a third, he also had three strikeouts.

In game two, senior pitcher Justin Prejsnar (New Castle, PA / New Castle) (5-0) dominated to remain undefeated on the season. He pitched a complete game, allowed only four hits, and struck out three Saints.

The Titans scored three of their six runs in the third inning as Steve Perrotta had an RBI double, Tim Wiand had an RBI single, and Chris Ross walked to bring home a run.

Westminster tacked on a run in the fourth inning as senior catcher Charles Hedland (New Castle, PA / Union) had a sacrifice bunt to plate Tyler Robinson. The Titans added two more runs in the fifth inning.

Perrotta finished with three hits to lead Westminster, Wiand and junior second baseman Ty Miller (Clinton, PA / Hopewell) had two hits apiece.

Westminster will play Thomas More again tomorrow in a single nine inning game, first pitch scheduled for 1:00pm.
