Mount Bats Come Alive Late To Top Brewers 13-6

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 18, 2012) -- The Vassar College baseball team clung to a 6-5 lead heading into the sixth inning but Mount Saint Mary College rallied for three runs in the sixth and five runs in the ninth en route to a 13-6 non-conference win on Wednesday at Prentiss Baseball Field. 

Thomas McNoble ate three middle innings to earn the win for the Saints, allowing four runs on nine hits as the teams staffed it out for a combined 10 pitchers used. Zach Kenny entered the game with a two-run lead and threw the final four scoreless innings to earn the save. Dennis Tariois tagged the loss for Vassar, allowing three runs on four hits in the sixth inning.

The Brewers (9-17, 7-9 Liberty) play University of Rochester on the road in a pair of Liberty League doubleheaders this Friday, April 20, at 1:00 pm and Saturday at 12:00 pm. The Knights play Lehman on Thursday, April 19, at 6:00 pm. 

Down 6-5, Mount Saint Mary scored three runs in the sixth to take the game's final lead, 8-6. Brian McNoble doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third on a single by Thomas McNoble. Chris Chieffo doubled to bring home Brian McNoble to tie the game 6-6 and Thomas McNoble scored on a wild pitch for a 7-6 lead. The Knights took an 8-6 lead with a run on a fielding error.

The Mount added five insurance runs on five hits in the ninth for a 13-6 lead. Brian McNoble and Alex Velardi each knocked two-RBI singles.

Vassar took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth with a two out rally, led of by a bunt single by Sean Morash. A single by Sal Costanzo advanced Morash to second, before a bloop hit by Kyle Caseyplated Vassar's sixth run. The Brewers loaded the bases but were unable to score another in the inning.

Trailing 5-2, the Brewers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the third. Zaziski led the inning off with a line drive single to right. Dave Robbins followed up with a single to left and left fielderParker Werline scored Zaziski with a single to center. Two batters later, Morash singled to right to bring Robbins home.

For Vassar, Casey went 3-for-4 with one run, one RBI, and a triple.

For Mount, Velardi batted 4-for-6 with four RBIs.
