(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College baseball team defeated Wittenberg University, 12-6, today (Wednesday, April 18, 2012) in a non-conference game at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 19-10 and with the loss, the Tigers fall to 18-15.
Thomas More scored four in the first, two in the second, two in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the seventh and held Wittenberg to two in the fifth, two in the eighth and two in the ninth for the 12-6 victory.
On the mound, junior Grant Lewis (Mason, Ohio/Mason) earned the win as he pitched six innings and gave up two runs (both earned) on three hits and struck out three.
Thomas More was led at the plate by junior right fielder Ryan Darner (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic), who was three-for-four with two doubles, six runs batted-in and one run scored. Three other Saints had multiple hits in the game as junior shortstop David Kennett (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) was three-for-five with two runs scored, freshman left fielder Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was three-for-three with two runs scored and senior first baseman Andrew Thole (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was three-for-four with two RBI and three runs scored.
Thomas More returns to action on Friday (April 20) when it opens a three-game Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) series with Geneva College with a 4 p.m. single nine-inning game at Thomas More Field.
