Union, N.J. (4/19/12) – Rookie Kevin McMenamin was 4-for-5 with two RBI helping #22 Rowan University to a 7-2 win over #8/10 Kean University in New Jersey Athletic Conference baseball action on Thursday afternoon.
Junior Mike Behar (5-0) earned the win as he tossed six and two thirds innings allowing two runs, one earned, with six hits. He also fanned two and walked to as the Profs improve to 21-11 and 5-6 in the NJAC. Senior Steve Sanguiliano led the Cougars (23-8, 8-3 NJAC) was a 2-for-4 day with an RBI.
Both teams started off the contest with two runs in their first at-bat. Rowan used a double by Brandon Winkler to start off the game and he came around scoring on a Marc Magliaro single up the middle. Senior Matt Hill made it 2-0 with an RBI single to center.
The Cougars made it 2-2 as Sanguiliano lined a two-out single to center and later crossed the plate on a Prof miscue.
Rowan scored what would be winning run in their half of the sixth as McMenamin lined a single down the leftfield line, scoring Nick Turano, who reached on a leadoff single. The Profs then added insurance in the eighth with a single run and put the game out of reach with a three-spot in the ninth.
Senior Ryan Peterson earned his fourth save of the year after tossing two and a third innings of shutout relief.
Turano was 2-for-5 with two runs scored while freshman Nick Kreiger was 3-for-5 with an RBI. For Kean, senior Vinny Galya was 2-for-5 with a double.
Senior Chris Cirlincione suffered the loss for the Cougars. Cirlincione (4-2) allowed three runs, two earned, as well as nine hits in six and a third innings of work.
The two teams square off again tomorrow in Glassboro with a 3:30 p.m. start.
