Minnemeyer Sets School Mark With 15 K's In Win Over PBU

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Freshman Jamey Minnemeyer set a single-game school record with 15 strikeouts to lead Gwynedd-Mercy to a 23-0 Colonial States Athletic Conference win over Philadelphia Biblical Friday afternoon.

The rookie bettered the old mark of 13 set by Steve Troy on April 16, 2001 against Marywood. Minnemeyer went seven innings, yielding just one hit and did not allow a walk. As a team, the Griffins totaled 18 K's, one shy of the school mark. Relievers Sean Weber and J.P. Harris along with Minnemeyer limited PBU to just two hits.

Offensively, Gwynedd (18-15, 7-6 CSAC) scored a run in every inning en route to the conference win. Sophomore Andrew Schaefer drove in four runs in going 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored. Freshman Jordano Rodriguez went 3-for-6 with a double and a triple, knocking in three runs.

Sophomore Mike Thomas and Ryan Haley each drove in three runs while freshman Ryan Downs added a solo home run.

Minnemeyer struck out the side in the fourth and the sixth. Five of his 15 K's were called third strikes.

Nick Schnittjer had a double in the second inning while Mark Wasson had a base hit in the eighth for the Crimson Eagles (5-25, 1-12 CSAC).

The two teams will meet again tomorrow in a conference doubleheader in Langhorne starting at noon.
