Glassboro, N.J. (4/20/12) – Junior Steven Melchiorre tossed a complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts to propel the #22 Rowan University baseball team past #8/10 Kean University, 2-0, Friday afternoon in NJAC action.

Melchiorre (4-1) allowed just four hits and no walks as Rowan improves to 22-11 overall and 6-6 in conference play.  Junior Kevin Herget (5-3) was the hard luck loser as he fanned 10 with two walks and nine hits in the complete game effort as Kean falls to 23-9 this season with an 8-4 NJAC mark.

The Profs pushed across single runs in the second and third innings and that would be all they would need as rookie Kevin McMenamin led off the second with a single.  He would move to second on a sacrifice and later score on a two-out RBI single from freshman Nick Kreiger.   Rowan made it 2-0 in the third as senior Marc Magliaro recorded a two-out single.  He would score off an RBI double from senior Nick Turano.

The Cougars had their best scoring chance in the eighth as senior Eddie Jennings led off the frame by being hit-by-a-pitch.  Senior Dylan Laguna followed with a single, putting runners on first and second with no outs.  Melchiorre then got the lead runner out at third and followed with a fly ball out and a strikeout to end the threat.

Kean looks to get back on track on Saturday when they host Rutgers-Newark for an NJAC doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m.
