NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team (18-17, 5-10 SUNYAC) was unable to match Friday's hot hitting, as the Hawks were swept on Senior Day on Saturday at Loren Campbell Memorial Field in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) twinbill against SUNY Fredonia (11-20, 5-10 SUNYAC), 3-0 and 4-1.

Game one was scoreless through three innings, as both team's aces made the start. Fredonia's Dillon Lowe scored the first run in the top of the fourth after stealing third and scoring when the throw got away from the third baseman. New Paltz picked up its first hit in the home half of the fourth and placed a runner in scoring position, but the Blue Devils were able to escape without any damage.

The Hawks threatened to tie the game in the fifth frame when sophomore catcher David Lostaglio (Milton, N.Y./Marlboro Central) singled with one away. Over the next two at bats, Lostaglio was able to move up to third on two wild pitches, but that is where he was stranded, as the Hawks were unable to drive him in.

Fredonia added its second run in the top of the sixth when Chris Messina singled to center to plate Lowe from third. The Blue Devils picked up their third run in the top of the seventh when Dan Fetes ripped a double to right, plating Dan Greco from second to give Fredonia a 3-0 advantage, which they held in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the game one victory.

Sean Larson picked up his second win of the season for the Blue Devils, tossing the complete seven innings. He gave up just three hits and struck out seven Hawk batters.

New Paltz starter Chris Chismar (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) suffered his third loss on the year. He struck out 10 batters over six innings of work, allowing five hits and walking one.

The nightcap began with Fredonia putting up a run in their first turn at bat. Greco led off the game with a single through the left side. He then moved up to second on a passed ball and proceeded to steal third. Greco came around to score on Fetes' ground out to third to give the Blue Devils the early 1-0 edge.

Fetes picked up his second RBI of game two on a third-inning single to right that allowed Ian Gallagher to score on a close play at the plate. Fetes later scored a run in the sixth after being driven in on Brian Sheehan's single to left center. Gallagher scored for a second time in the top of the eighth on Lowe's ground out to third which pushed the Hawk deficit to four runs.

The Hawks got on the board for the first time in the bottom of the eighth. Junior center fielder Matt Carr (Westbury, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) led off with a triple to deep left before senior right fielder Mike Sherlock (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) singled him in to bring the Hawks within three. The Hawks were unable to continue the rally, resulting in a 4-1 loss in game two.

Starter James McKenna (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) dropped to 2-2 for the Hawks with the loss. He threw seven innings, giving up three earned runs while striking out seven.

Fredonia's Steve Sturm picked up the win, throwing seven innings of shutout baseball and striking out five batters.

Carr led the Hawks in game two, going 2-for-4 with a three-bagger and scoring the Hawks' only run. After entering the game to play right field in the seventh, Sherlock singled in his only at bat and picked up a RBI.

The Hawks play a non-conference matchup at William Paterson University on Tuesday, April 24. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. in Wayne, N.J.
