GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior Clint O'Brien homered in his final at-bat, but the Gettysburg College baseball team lost 15-2 to York (Pa.) College in its season finale Tuesday afternoon at Kirchhoff Field.

The Bullets (25-13) finished the season with the fourth-highest win total in school history and more than doubled their win total from a year ago. They also broke the school record for hits in a season (445) and finished second in program history in batting average (.330), the best mark since the 1994 squad batted .328.

With Gettysburg trailing big in the bottom of the eighth, O'Brien led off the inning and delivered a towering shot to left off reliever Dan McNamara for his second career home run and his first of the season. He finished his career by reaching base in his final 17 games.

York (21-19), which snapped Gettysburg's eight-game winning streak against non-conference opponents, never trailed after scoring the game's first three runs in the top of the second. Colin Porter finished 3-for-3 for the Spartans while Jimmy King went 2-for-5 with two doubles, three runs, and three RBIs.

O'Brien and sophomore Austin Davis each went 2-for-4 for Gettysburg while freshman Scott Zanghellini finished 2-for-3. Davis hit .490 for the season to finish with the second-best batting average in school history among players with at least 30 at-bats.

York started its ace pitcher in Tommy Moran (7-2), who entered the game with a team-best 2.77 ERA over eight starts. He allowed only an unearned run on seven hits through seven innings.

The Spartans utilized three hits and an error to put up their three-spot in the second against Bullet starter John Donovan, who was making his first start since April 7. Gettysburg pushed across an unearned run in the third on an RBI-double from sophomore Al Posch to make it 3-1.

York pushed its lead to 8-1 with a five-run, seven hit fifth against Donovan and sophomore reliever Rob Stalzer. In the meantime, the Bullets were unable to dent the stingy Moran, who did not allow any of his final four base runners to advance beyond second, and he picked a runner of first in the fourth.

The Spartans plated one run in the seventh, then settled any doubt with a six-run eighth against Stalzer and sophomore Chris Yoda. The inning featured just two hits but also included two errors and four walks.

Donovan (3-1) was charged with his first loss of the year, throwing 4 1/3 innings and yielding six runs (five earned) on six hits and three walks.

Sophomore Joe Saladino threw a scoreless ninth for the Bullets.
