Union, N.J. (5/5/12) – Southpaw Ryan Zamorsky earned his eighth win of the season as he helped #11/14 Kean University baseball team to a 7-1 win over Ramapo College in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament.
With the win, Kean advances to the NJAC Championship game on Sunday at noon. Ramapo will now take on The College of New Jersey or Rowan University later this afternoon with the loss.
The Cougars improve to 30-10, reaching the 30-win plateau for the eighth straight season.
Kean jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second as senior Eddie Jennings led off the frame with a triple to dead center. He would come around and score on a bunt single from senior Dylan Laguna for a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, sophomore Tyler Smarslok lined a two-out single to right, plating two, giving Kean a 3-0 lead.
The Roadrunners (30-12) got one back in their half of the fifth as junior Dave Jacob drove one home with a sacrifice fly, scoring senior Joseph Somma who reached on a leadoff single up the middle.
Kean would put the game out of reach with a single run in the bottom of the fifth and another three-spot in the sixth. Freshman Andy Lopez recorded an RBI single in the fifth and provided an RBI double in the sixth. Sophomores Joe O'Connor and Shane Alvarez each had an RBI in the sixth.
Zamorsky (8-1) allowed just one run while scattering eight hits in eight innings of work. He walked no one and fanned five. Sophomore Matt Mantione closed out the ninth. Junior Travis Zilg suffered the loss for the Roadrunners. Zilg (6-3) allowed seven runs and 10 hits in five and two thirds innings of work.
Offensively, Smarslok led the Cougars with three RBI while senior Vinny Galya crossed the plate three times in the win. For Ramapo, Somma led all players with a three hit day.
