STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The 14th-ranked UW-Stevens Point baseball team swept UW-Platteville 5-4 and 11-1 in seven innings on Saturday afternoon to snap a five-game losing streak and close out the regular season with a series split against the Pioneers.

The Pointers (27-13, 15-9 WIAC) secure the No. 3 seed in the upcoming 2012 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Championship and will face second-seeded UW-Whitewater in La Crosse on Friday, May 11. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
After suffering a pair of losses in Friday's doubleheader, the Pointers took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when Dan Douglas (East Troy, WI/East Troy) drew a bases-loaded walk to score a run.
The Pioneers went in front thanks to three runs in the sixth inning off starter Brad Stroik (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH), but the Pointers answered in the home-half of the inning thanks to RBIs from Casey Barnes (Mequon, WI/Homestead), Cody Hanke (Marathon, WI/Marathon) and Ryan Schilter (West Bend, WI/West), moving in front 4-3.
A leadoff double by Jimmy Coady (La Crosse, WI/Aquinas) in the eighth and a throwing error by Platteville brought an insurance run and gave the Pointers a 5-3 advantage.
The Pioneers scored a run in the ninth but closer Ryan Iverson (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire North) retired the final batters to secure the save, his sixth of the season, and give the Pointers the one-run victory.
Stroik threw seven innings, allowing three runs, all earend, striking out three. Zach Wendorf (Merrill, WI/Merrill) threw a scoreless inning in relief.
Coady and Douglas each collected two hits.
In game two, the Pointers hung five runs on the board in the home-half of the first inning and added four in the fourth and one run in the fifth to take a 10-0 lead.
In the seventh, the Pioneers plated a run to cut the UWSP lead to nine, 10-1.
In the bottom of the seventh the Pointers loaded the bases and, with one outs, Iverson flew out to center field and plated Bobby Gregorich (Plover, WI/SPASH) and gave the Pointers the run-shortened seven inning victory.
Douglas collected three hits in game two while Justin Jirschele (Clintonville, WI/Clintonville), Schilter and Coady each tallied two. Doublas, Jirschele, Coady and Schilter each drove in two runs.
