Bats Lead the Way for Farmingdale State

#2 Farmingdale State - 10, #5 Skidmore - 2


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The #2 seed Farmingdale State baseball team defeated #5 Skidmore today, 10-2, in game two of the NCAA Division III Baseball Farmingdale Regional game at Farmingdale State. The Rams (30-10) will now face the winner of tonights game featuring #3 Ithaca/#4 Misericordia on Thursday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m. The Thoroughbreds (30-16) face #6 Castleton at Noon tomorrow in an elimination game.

In the first, senior pitcher Chris Phelan (Patchogue, N.Y.) struck out the side to start the game. In the second, he walk the leadoff batter and a double to left center by senior designated hitter Zack Rudman (Pittsford, N.Y.) would score the games first run. Phelan struck out the next three for six K's in 2 innings. He allowed one more run in the fifth, before exiting the game in the sixth, improving to 9-1 on the year.

Farmingdale got on the board in the bottom of the inning to tie it 1-1. Junior first baseman Ron Remi (Massapequa, N.Y.) reached on an error and a single by freshman designated Matthew Zsvec (Westbury, N.Y.) moved him to third. Junior left fielder David Zilnicki (Riverhead, N.Y.) bounced a single thru the infield to score Remi from third.

In the fourth, the Rams went up 4-1 on four hits, including singles from Zsevc and freshman centerfielder Edward Bergmann (East Meadow, N.Y.) and a triple by Zilnicki. Farmingdale scored six runs in their final three at-bats to increase the lead and secure the win.

Junior pitcher Jordan Keysor (Cadyville, N.Y.) dropped to 6-5 overall this year, allowing 13 hits and six earned runs while striking out four. Rudman finished 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Cougars.

For Farmingdale, Zilnicki finished 3-for-4 with three RBI's. Senior third baseman Ryan McAllister (Miller Place, N.Y.) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
