The longest baseball game in UW-Oshkosh history ended with a 1-0 victory for Saint Mary's University (Minn.) after 14 innings on Sunday (March 25) in the Minneapolis Metrodome.

A run finally crossed the plate after 83 men were retired during three hours and 43 minutes. In the bottom of the 14th, Paul LaNasa singled for his fourth hit of the night. Two outs later, Andy Edholm marked an infield single that brought home the walk-off score.

The Titans (3-6) had their opportunities, with runners thrown out at the plate during the first, fourth and 11th frames. Derek Layton (Jr. • Cross Plains) led off the game with a triple, and the Cardinals (8-5) misfired on a cutoff throw. Layton tried to score but was cut down at home.

Saint Mary's used LaNasa's single and stolen base to threaten during the third inning. On a one-out single to left field, LaNasa was thrown out at the plate. The Cardinals then had the bases loaded in the fifth before striking out.

Each team used three pitchers in the epic battle. Tyler Krysiak earned the victory after going two innings. Teddy VanRanst started for Saint Mary's, while Justin Kronebusch relieved, and both men fired six scoreless frames. Kronebusch retired 10 consecutive batters at one point.

Travis Sindles (So. • Twin Lakes) struck out four in 4.2 innings to begin the game. James Lacy (So. • Shawano) entered during the sixth and finished the contest, going 8.1 frames and allowing eight hits with five strikeouts for the loss.

Layton led all Titans with four hits, as Tyler Kamps (Jr. • Appleton) contributed three. The Cardinals held a 14-13 advantage in hits using two apiece from Mike Feriancek and Jon Schlemmer.
