GREENSBORO, N.C. – Jordan Slate's sacrifice fly in the ninth inning plated Casey Mann, clinching the Quakers' 7-6 victory over visiting University of Maine at Presque Isle Sunday at McBane Field.

Mann's triple to center field in the bottom of the ninth inning set up Slate's winning RBI. The Owls (0-2) and Quakers (3-3) went back and forth throughout the game. Guilford scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-4 lead. Presque-Isle countered with single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to tie the score. The Owls had runners at the corners with one out in the ninth and tried a suicide squeeze bunt, which Guilford catcher Gabe Mirabelli fielded and put the tag on Stephen Thorne for the second out of the inning.

John Macon Smith and Justin Pittman both had two hits, two runs and an RBI. D.J. Phillips went 1-for-3 with one run before exiting the game with a shoulder injury. Tyler Tuttle (2-0) claimed the win for the Quakers with a scoreless ninth inning.

The Owls banged out 15 hits in the game, three by Jordan Duffy. Carlos Villoria, Joshua Gale, Logan McLaug and Justin Bergeron all had two hits. Starter Dylan Worster threw six innings before giving way to reliever Adam Geel (0-1).

The Quakers play the Owls once more this Tuesday, Feb. 19, at McBane Field at 2:30 p.m.
