FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Tomcat baseball team took both games of a double header against Finlandia College in their season opener at the Gene Cusic Classic Sunday.

The Tomcats bats came alive in the first game as they took game one from the Lions 6-0.

Thiel got on the board in the top of the second inning as they plated one run on a Dan Koller (Euclid, Ohio/Lake Catholic) single through the right side that scored Cody Trinch(Franklin, Pa./Franklin), who led the inning off with a double.

The Tomcats scored two more runs in the top of the third inning on back-to-back doubles by Eric King (Butler, Pa./Butler) and Eric Steininger (West Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg). A sacrifice fly by Trinch that scored Steininger made it 3-0 in favor of the Tomcats.

Three runs was more than enough for Nick Rossmiller, who threw five and a third innings of no-hit baseball, surrendering a single to Finlandia's Drew Covington with one out in the sixth to break up the no-hitter. Rossmiller recorded a complete-game shutout, throwing all seven innings, allowing three hits, striking out 12 and walking just one batter.

Steininger led the Tomcats at the dish, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one run batted in. Jarod Nanna (Johnstown, Pa./Conemaugh) went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an run batted in, while Koller went 2-for-2 with a run batted in.

Thiel kept their foot on the pedal in game two, scoring 17 runs on 18 hits in a 17-3 romp of the Lions.

The Tomcats raced out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning and were up 14-0 after just three innings, cruising to the win behind the pitching of Cody Northcutt.

Northcutt threw six innings, allowing three hits, no earned runs while striking out ten and walking just three.

Five Tomcats posted multi-hit games- King (2-for-3), Steininger (2-for-3), Ryan Hart (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) (2-for-2), Trinch (3-for-4) and Nick Schiavonni (Boiling Spring, Pa./Trinity) (2-for-3) while 12 different Tomcats recorded hits in the win.
