Greensboro Falls in Doubleheader to Mount Union

The Pride baseball team (9-10 overall) dropped a doubleheader to Mount Union (2-0 overall) on Sunday afternoon. Greensboro lost game one 2-1, and the second game 6-1 to start their spring break trip.

Greensboro used a seventh inning rally in game one before falling 2-1. The Pride trailed 2-0 entering the seventh inning before getting on the board.

Bill Wooding walked starting the inning off. Christian Snider singled to right field moving Wooding to second. Seth Caison pushed their only run of the game across on a double to right field. Greensboro would strand runners on second and third to drop the game 2-1.

Mount Union took early control of the game scoring one run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Purple Raiders would tack on another run in the fourth extending their lead to 2-0.

James Feldmann led the way with two hits. Caison had one run batted in. Hunter Jenkins took the loss pitching four innings allowing two runs on five hits.

In game two, the Purple Raiders again jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first making it 3-0. Mount Union added another run in the third pushing the lead to 4-0.

The Pride got a run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-1. Josh Pettiford walked to get things going. Jordan Powell singled through the right side advancing Pettiford to second. Jimmy Pirro hit in to a double play that allowed Pettiford to score making it 4-1.

However, Mount Union responded with one run in the fifth inning to make it 5-1. The Purple Raiders scored the final run of the game in the sixth to win the game 6-1.

Five Pride players – Kyle Schmidt, Wooding,Powell, Pettiford, and Feldman - recorded a hit.

Greensboro will look to rebound tomorrow with a doubleheader against Transylvania. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Davenport, Florida.
