No. 19 Shenandoah Sweeps Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – No. 19/27 Shenandoah University earned its first-ever ODAC baseball sweep with a pair of victories over Guilford College Sunday afternoon.

Shenandoah (9-2, 3-1 ODAC) was a 6-5 winner in the opener before taking game two over GC 9-2.

In game one, SU jumped on the Quakers (7-8, 1-3) for two runs each in the third, fourth and sixth innings only to see Guilford make things interesting with a four-run ninth.

With runners on first and second, Hornets closer Cameron Lundmark struck out designated hitter Justin Pittman looking to end the contest and give Shenandoah the 6-5 victory.

Corbin LucasNick Beall and Dan Powers all had two hits each with Lucas also driving in three runs. Lucas a sacrifice fly in the third and a two-run double in the fourth.

Senior Nick McMahon (1-2) earned the win after giving up three runs on eight hits and one walk in 8 1/3 innings of work.

Matt Riegler got the second out of the frame before Lundmark shut the door for his second save of the spring.

SU scored three runs in the first inning of game two and expanded its lead with one in the third, two in the seventh and three more in the ninth, but needed a strong relief appearance from winning pitcher Michael Scimanico (1-0) to secure the win.

Holding a 4-1 lead in the fifth with runners on the corners and no outs, Hornets skipper Kevin Anderson turned to Scimanico and the freshman delivered, getting a pop-out, a line-out and a strikeout to end the Quakers threat.

Scimanico earned the win with 3.0 innings of work - he allowed run one on four hits and one walk against three strikeouts.

Lucas, J.J. McDanielAndrew Creamer and Billy Arens all had two hits each withRicky Pardo leading the offense on the strength of a 3 for 4 game two that including two RBI and two runs scored.

Creamer also drove in a pair on a double in the first and when he was hit by pitch with the bases loaded in the ninth.

Shenandoah continues ODAC play on Wednesday at Eastern Mennonite in a 4:00 contest.
