Rams Fall at Division I Hofstra

Hempstead, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team traveled to Division I Hofstra University on Wednesday afternoon and fell 6-2. The Rams now stand at 5-7 on the season, while the Pride improved to 4-11.

Hofstra broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third as junior left fielder Kenny Jackson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) reached on a fielding error allowing senior Taylor Stuart (Westport, Conn.) to score. The Pride increased the lead to 2-0 on an RBI groundout by junior shortstop Joe Perez (Clovis, Cal.) and scored their third run of the inning on an RBI single by senior first baseman Jared Hammer (Flemington, N.J.).

Leading 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth, a Kevin Brantley (Apopka, Fla.) RBI single to center put the Pride up 5-0. In their next at-bat, Hoftsta scored their sixth run on an RBI groundout by junior center fielder Brent Hall (Visalia, Cal.).

After back-to-back singles to lead off the top of the eighth inning, sophomore shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) singled to right scoring sophomore Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.). Farmingdale State cut the deficit to 6-2 after senior first baseman Ron Remi (Massapequa, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Rams were held scoreless in the ninth as Hofstra captured the 6-2 victory.

Sophomore pitcher Nick Kozlowski (Huntington Station, N.Y.) earned his first win of the season after throwing five scoreless innings and striking out seven.

Farmingdale State next will host Southern Maine on Saturday, March 16th at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 17th at noon.
