More news about: Thomas

WATERVILLE, ME- The Thomas College baseball team will look to build off of a historic 2012 season as the squad finished with a school record 19 conference victories and 25 wins overall. The Terriers earned the number two seed in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division and fell to conference champion Castleton in the semi-finals.

Head Coach Greg King, entering his 17th season at the helm for the Terriers, will have the challenge of replacing six starters in the field, two conference pitchers, as well as the top two arms out of the bullpen. Thomas will be leaning on three returning senior starters offensively; centerfielder Cody Vigue (Skowhegan, Maine), shortstop Jeffrey Richardson (Rochester, N.H.), and catcher John Charves (Harwich, Mass.). Vigue and Richardson earned NEAC East Division All-Conference First Team honors for the 2012 season. Vigue led the Terriers with 10 steals while batting .341 with 11 doubles and 29 RBI, while Richardson led the team with a .352 average and 51 hits to go along with 11 doubles. Charves was a defensive standout behind the plate, throwing out five runners in addition to holding down a .339 on base percentage.

The 2013 season will heavily depend on their pitching staff, which returns four conference starters. Jake Chamblee (Eliot, Maine), James McLamb (Livermore Falls, Maine), Eric Sucy (Belgrade, Maine), and Tim Locke (Waterville, Maine) as they will look to anchor the staff.

The Terriers lost 16 players from last season's team, but have added 16 newcomers that will need to step up and make an immediate impact.

Thomas begins their season on March 17, 2013 at Johnson & Wales (RI) before travelling to Auburndale, FL to compete in the RussMatt Florida Invitational. The first home game will be April 6th against Lyndon State on H. Allen Ryan Field.
