FORT MYERS, Fla. – It's not likely the result the Edgewood College baseball team envisioned for their spring break trip, but the Eagles will return home knowing they were never out of a game. The Eagles fell to 24th-ranked Johns Hopkins University 3-1 on Saturday to complete their eight games at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic schedule with a record of 1-7.

Johns Hopkins (7-1) tallied two runs in the first, one on an RBI single by Colin McCarthy and the other on a run-scoring groundout by Mike Denlinger. After the first frame however, Edgewood College starter Trevor Koehn limited the Blue Jays to just one run and six hits, while striking out five for his final seven innings pitched.

Edgewood College (2-11) had an opportunity with bases loaded and one out in the second inning, but the Blue Jays turned a slick 5-4-3 double play to get out of the jam. After Johns Hopkins made the score 3-0 in the fifth, the Eagles get a run back in the top of the sixth inning.

With two outs, Jake Zadra was hit by a pitch and he moved to second when Ryan O'Dell walked. Marc Ostrowski then delivered an RBI single to center field to score Zadra from second base. Edgewood College mustered two hits in the seventh inning, but went down in order in the eighth and ninth innings to end the game.

The Eagles had six hits in the game, all of which were singles. Zadra hit an even .500 (11-for-22) for Edgewood College's eight games in Florida and scored a team-high eight runs. O'Dell had team-highs for Fort Myers with 12 hits and 10 runs batted in.

Edgewood College will begin their long bus ride home today. They'll have a few days to recover before meeting NCAA Division I opponent Illinois-Chicago on Wednesday afternoon at Les Miller Field in Chicago. The Eagles season opening doubleheader is scheduled for Friday, March 29 against Maranatha Baptist at Stampfl Field in Verona.
