Dexter's Seventh Inning RBI Leads Southern Maine Past Rams

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Southern Maine freshman shortstop Sam Dexter's (Oakland, ME) two out RBI single to left field in the top of the seventh broke the 1-1 tie and led the Huskies to a 2-1 non-conference victory this afternoon in Farmingdale N.Y.

In the bottom of the first, freshman first baseman Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) gave the Rams (5-8) a 1-0 lead after a two out RBI single to left which scored sophomore second baseman Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.)

Southern Maine (3-0) evened the score at 1-1 on a Matt Verrier (Norway, ME) RBI single to center field in the top of the second inning.

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth, McCarthy hit a two out ground rule double to center field but the Huskies forced the final out to capture the 2-1 victory.

Junior pitcher Logan Carman (New Fields, N.H.) earned his second win of the season after allowing two hits and one run while striking out seven in 6.2 innings of work. Junior Forest Chadwick (Gardiner, ME) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save.

McCarthy was 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, while Rydzewski added a hit and a run scored.

Sophomore second baseman Anthony Pisani (Cheshire, Conn.) was 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Huskies.

Senior pitcher Anthony Eilers (Bay Shore, N.Y.) recorded the loss after allowing one run in 5.2 innings pitched.

Farmingdale State next will host Southern Maine on Sunday, March 17th at noon.
