Nichols Topped by Pitt.-Bradford at Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic, 11-1

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Nichols College baseball team fell 11-1 to Pitt.-Bradford in a Monday morning nine-inning affair at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.

Nichols dented the scoring column in the seventh inning as First-year Brady Boisvert (Plainfield, N.H.) laced a two-out RBI double to right field for the lone Bison run of the day. The Panthers scored two runs in all but one of the first six innings and tacked on a tally in the eighth.

In addition to Boisvert, junior Nick Shaw (Plymouth, Mass, first-year Kevin Cotton (Westminster, Mass.), sophomore Brett Franciosi (Leominster, Mass.), and senior Kyle Russell (W. Yarmouth, Mass.) all recorded a hit for the Bison. Junior Michael Pascarella (Bradford, Pa.) and senior Derek Smith (Jersey Shore, Pa.) each went yard and eight of nine starters all recorded multiple hits for the Panthers.

Senior James Curto (Braintree, Mass.) allowed eight runs – five earned – on 11 hits over five innings and fanned six batters as he fell to 0-1. Senior Chris Bruno (Darien, Conn.)  surrendered three runs on eight hits in the final three frames. Pitt.-Bradford sophomore Bobby Sorokas (Plains, Pa.) was charged with one run on three hits to go along with six strikeouts in seven innings of work. Freshman Aaron Jackson (Hiram, Ohio) threw two scoreless innings where he allowed two hits and set down a trio of batters via the strikeout.

Nichols returns to the Player Development Complex tomorrow for a 10:00 a.m. single game against Otterbein. The Panthers return home to face Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
